Orthodontic Treatments: The ultimate solution for misaligned teeth and irregularities
What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, interception, guidance, and correction of bad bites or dental irregularities, including the use of appliances.
Orthodontics not only corrects smiles but also plays a crucial role in improving oral health. This dental treatment, known for correcting dental and jaw malpositions, has evolved significantly with the advance of technology, offering faster, more effective, and less invasive solutions.

How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?
The main reason for visiting the orthodontist, in both adults and children, is to treat malocclusion or “bad bite”. Symptoms such as mouth breathing, clenching or grinding of the teeth, or not being able to close the lips comfortably indicate the need for orthodontic care.
Your smile, an essential feature, and your first letter of introduction should be in the hands of a qualified specialist. If you feel insecure about your teeth, orthodontics can restore your confidence and significantly improve your life.
Types of orthodontic appliances
The type of orthodontic treatment is chosen based on your specific needs and your orthodontist’s suggestions. Some of the most common options are listed below:
It is the most common method of orthodontics. It uses metal brackets and wires attached to the teeth to modify their location and achieve proper alignment.
Not all orthodontic appliances are metal. If you prefer a less conspicuous option, clear braces may be an ideal alternative. These work in the same way as traditional metal braces, but are made with translucent or colored brackets that blend in with the natural shade of the teeth.
This orthodontic approach dispenses with brackets and wires, using instead custom-made plastic splints (most commonly known as Invisalign) that fit directly over the teeth. A specific set of splints is manufactured for each stage of treatment. As each phase is completed, the splint used is removed and replaced by the next in the sequence, until the treatment is complete.
Lingual orthodontics is an invisible orthodontic technique. Unlike traditional braces, lingual brackets are placed on the inside of the teeth, next to the tongue. This makes them completely invisible from the outside and provides exceptional accuracy.
At Turó Park Aesthetic, we are committed to your well-being before, during, and after the procedure, ensuring professionalism not only in the treatment but also on the road to recovery.

Dentists and orthodontists use the term “mixed dentition” to refer to the period when children have both baby teeth and permanent teeth. This process usually occurs between the ages of 6 and 11.
A proper bite and alignment allow children to bite, chew, breathe, and speak more clearly, as well as improve their dental health by reducing the risk of cavities, resulting in a more harmonious smile.

It is important to remember that orthodontics not only corrects the alignment of the teeth and improves the esthetics of the smile, but also optimizes functions such as chewing, phonation, swallowing, and breathing.
In addition, orthodontics facilitates dental hygiene, since well-aligned teeth are easier to clean and maintain. It can also correct TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, such as difficulty chewing, limited mouth opening, and nocturnal bruxism among others.
Fortunately today, there are invisible orthodontic techniques that allow adults and adolescents to benefit from braces without compromising esthetics.

The Invisalign technique is one of the most demanded orthodontic treatments. Using custom-made transparent and removable splints, it is possible to align teeth and restore dental balance effectively.
These easy-to-use, invisible splints are changed approximately every 15 days and should be worn 22 hours a day. This painless and discreet method appeals to both adolescents and adults who remember traditional braces with distaste.

Jaime Guinovart is an amazing dentist. After an accident I damaged my front teeth when I was young. I have seen so many dentists in the last two years that I have built up a lot of fear. Jaime helped me with so much patience that my fear is completely gone. And the result of the cosmetic changes are super natural and perfect! Thank you Jaime.

Frequently asked questions about orthodontics
Both orthodontists and dentists improve the oral health of their patients, albeit in different ways. Dentistry encompasses a broad medical specialty that deals with the teeth, gums, nerves, and jaw. Orthodontics, on the other hand, is a subspecialty within dentistry, focused on correcting the bite and alignment of the teeth.
On average, it takes about 24 months to complete orthodontic treatment. Some patients need less than 12 months, but some patients need up to 3 years of treatment before their teeth reach the desired position. Orthodontics is not a one-size-fits-all solution and each patient’s mouth is unique.
The results of orthodontics are long-lasting, but teeth may shift over time. Therefore, after active treatment, it is necessary to use a retention system, either a night splint or a wire placed on the back of the teeth.
