What are brown facial spots?
Brown spots correspond to hyperpigmentation of the skin, that is, an excessive production of melanin.
As a reminder, melanin is a dark brown pigment responsible for the color of the skin. The higher the melanin level in an individual, the darker their skin will be.
Types of facial spots
What causes facial spots?
Many internal and external factors can explain the appearance of dark spots on the skin:
- UV exposure
- Aging
- Pollution exposure
- Pregnancy
- Hormonal imbalances
- Genetic predisposition
It is also important to note that hyperpigmentation marks tend to affect darker skin types more than lighter skin types, as skin pigmentation is stronger in darker skin types.
At Turó Park Aesthetic, we are committed to your well-being before, during, and after the procedure, ensuring professionalism not only in the treatment but also on the road to recovery.

Before and After Laser Treatment for Facial Spots
Types of treatments for facial spots
The laser is very effective in erasing these pigmentation spots in very few sessions.
The laser depigmentation technique is very popular because it allows targeting the pigmented spot with precision without going beyond the periphery of the spot.
However, caution is needed, as pigmentation with a laser requires some precautions, the most important being to avoid sun exposure before, during, and after the treatment. Therefore, laser sessions should be performed in winter.
Cryotherapy is a technique that uses liquid nitrogen at -190º to produce a thermal burn that destroys skin cells. More commonly known for its use in treating warts, it can also treat hyperpigmentation. Usually, only one or two sessions are needed to remove brown spots with cryotherapy.
Photodynamic therapy is a medical treatment that combines an active substance with light irradiation on the skin. The light source acts as an activator of the photosensitizing substance which, once activated, generates free radicals, causing damage to the tissues where it has accumulated. It should be noted that the session can sometimes be painful depending on the areas treated and that it is important not to expose yourself to the sun after a photodynamic therapy session.
The depigmenting peel contains active ingredients that regulate melanin production, thus reducing spots and restoring skin brightness. It is indicated for all types of pigmentation, epidermal (age spots) or dermal (melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, etc.). The depigmenting peel involves applying a product composed of a complex of depigmenting agents directly to the skin. The product must remain on the face for 6 to 12 hours. Therefore, patients are allowed to go home with the peel and rinse it off at home. After a peel, the skin tends to become hot and red. These symptoms usually disappear after a few hours.

What do our patients say?
I went to the medical center seeking to attenuate the spots on my face caused by the sun and the passage of time. There I received advice and attention from Dr. Maria Carrera, who recommended a series of facial laser treatments to eliminate the spots. After the first session, the results were really remarkable, being very satisfied with the final process. I will certainly continue to work with Dr. Carrera, since I feel that the treatment received has been really sincere and professional. After my recent experience, I highly recommend her services and that you consult her for any aspect that concerns you.

I went to an appointment with Dr. Maria Carrera to help me evaluate my skin after a process of acne and pigmentation that I did not know how to solve, since the creams had not achieved sufficient effect. I felt very comfortable, she quickly and efficiently located the solution, and advised me on the laser treatment that best suited me. I have no hesitation in continuing to have my skin checked by them from now on.

Brown spots should be monitored. If they seem to be developing (increasing in size, changing color, bleeding, increasing in size, etc.), it is important to consult a specialist, as they can be symptoms of developing melanoma.
To limit the risk of brown spots, it is advisable to protect the skin from the sun with SPF 50.
Vitamin E (many plants contain fat-soluble substances with antioxidant effects) can prevent the reappearance of dark spots and promote even pigmentation. Additionally, it acts against skin aging, therefore against brown spots, and protects against free radicals.
