Vascular Lesions: Laser treatment for even-toned skin
What are telangiectasias or facial vascular lesions?
Telangiectasia, popularly known as “spider veins”, is a skin condition characterized by the permanent dilation of small blood vessels which often form a star on the skin. They may be composed of abnormal aggregates of arterioles, capillaries or venules.
Their color varies from red to purple.
These vascular lesions mainly appear on areas of the skin exposed to sunlight: cheekbones, sides of the nose, lower eyelids, forehead, or chin. However, they can appear anywhere on the body and are sometimes accompanied by a burning or itching sensation, especially around the eyes.
At Turó Park Aesthetic, we are specialists in advanced laser treatments thanks to the Nordlys™ laser, which allows us to treat 21 different indications, including blood vessels or telangiectasias, both with fractionated laser and intense pulsed light.

What Causes Facial Vascular Lesions?
Facial spider veins are often a sign of chronic venous insufficiency. They are often of genetic origin, but other factors such as sun exposure, intense cold, alcohol, and pollution can stimulate and intensify their appearance.
Age also seems to be a determining factor, since after the age of 60, almost 80% of people have telangiectasias. While most of the time these blood vessels that appear on the face are benign, they can cause complexes in those who have them.
Additionally, women are twice as affected as men. Vascular lesions are thought to be related to estrogenic impregnation and its vasodilator effect.

Vascular Lesion Treatment Step by Step
Upon arrival, the patient will be equipped with protective glasses to ensure safety during the procedure. This step is crucial to protect the eyes from laser or intense pulsed light rays.
The doctor will proceed to treat the affected areas using an IPL device or vascular laser, such as the Nordlys™. The goal is the selective destruction of the dilated blood vessels, which helps eliminate visible redness. Each treatment session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes.
Immediately after the session, a healing or soothing cream is applied to relieve the treated area. To achieve optimal results, several sessions are usually required, scheduled at 4-week intervals.

What do our patients say?
I went to the medical center seeking to attenuate the spots on my face caused by the sun and the passage of time. There I received advice and attention from Dr. Maria Carrera, who recommended a series of facial laser treatments to eliminate the spots. After the first session, the results were really remarkable, being very satisfied with the final process. I will certainly continue to work with Dr. Carrera, since I feel that the treatment received has been really sincere and professional. After my recent experience, I highly recommend her services and that you consult her for any aspect that concerns you.

I went to an appointment with Dr. Maria Carrera to help me evaluate my skin after a process of acne and pigmentation that I did not know how to solve, since the creams had not achieved sufficient effect. I felt very comfortable, she quickly and efficiently located the solution, and advised me on the laser treatment that best suited me. I have no hesitation in continuing to have my skin checked by them from now on.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vascular Lesion Treatment
In the 10 days before the session, avoid taking any medication containing acetylsalicylic acid, as well as Ciproxin, Noroxin, or antidepressants, and a plant called St. John’s Wort, which is often found in “natural” preparations against depressive states. Additionally, it is necessary to completely avoid the sun for at least one month before and one month after the session for the treatment to be safe.
Laser treatment is well tolerated by patients. During the session, the laser produces a thermal effect that will result in a slight warming of the skin or even a tingling sensation. It is not painful and anesthetic cream is not needed before the treatment.
Laser treatment should not be used if you are pregnant, if your skin is still tanned, or if you are taking photosensitizing or anticoagulant medications.
