What is Bichectomy?
Bichectomy, also known as Bichat fat pad removal, is a cosmetic surgery that involves removing fatty bodies from the cheek to achieve more defined cheekbones, hollowed cheeks, and a more prominent jawline.
Opting for a bichectomy not only improves the facial profile but can also contribute to greater self-confidence and satisfaction with personal appearance.

What are Bichat's Fat Pads?
Bichat’s balls, discovered and named after the anatomist physician Xavier Bichat , are pockets of fat that vary in size from person to person and play a crucial role in the appearance of the cheeks. Although these pads do not have a vital function, their removal can have a dramatic impact on the overall perception and harmony of the face.
If you are considering a bichectomy, it is essential to select an aesthetic clinic with experienced specialists in this treatment to ensure optimal results and a safe recovery process. Book an appointment at Turó Park Aesthetic and start your Bichat’s fat pad removal treatment.
At Turó Park Aesthetic, we are committed to your well-being before, during, and after the procedure, ensuring professionalism not only in the treatment but also on the road to recovery.

Meet our multilingual doctors
Meet our team of multilingual specialists, composed of leaders in aesthetic medicine and surgery. Our doctors, who speak English, French, Dutch, Spanish, and Catalan, are dedicated to providing you with personalized, high-quality care.
Bichectomy step by step
Before the bichectomy, extensive preparation is not necessary. However, it is recommended to arrive rested and without makeup on the day of the procedure. Your doctor may suggest taking an oral medication for light sedation, ensuring your comfort and relaxation during the treatment.
Local anesthesia will be applied to numb the cheek area. Through a small incision inside the mouth, your surgeon will carefully remove the Bichat’s fat pads.
After the surgery, it is normal to experience slight swelling in the treated area. This side effect typically decreases over the next 2 to 3 days. You will be given specific post-operative care instructions, which should be followed closely to ensure optimal and complication-free recovery.
There may be slight swelling for 2 or 3 days after the procedure. The final result can be seen 15 days after the operation in thinner faces and up to 3 months after the operation in rounder faces.

Very pleased with Dr. Lloyd Nanhekhan and his staff. Highly recommended. I have seen more than 10 specialists in Barcelona but he is the only one I could trust and always will. He focuses on his patients and best practices from the medical perspective not the sales perspective.

Frequently asked questions about Bichectomy
Not all faces are suited to benefit from a bichectomy. In cases of people with naturally angular or thin faces, the removal of Bichat balls may exacerbate a skeletal appearance. Similarly, for those who are overweight, it is recommended to first achieve a stable weight to evaluate the real influence of Bichat’s fat pads on facial aesthetics.
Bichectomy is suitable for both men and women who want to slim their face and make their jawline more defined.
While both treatments aim to reduce the size of the cheeks, cheek liposuction will only remove fat directly under the skin of the cheeks. Therefore, it can reappear if the patient gains weight. Bichectomy, on the other hand, targets the deep-seated fat, making it more durable.
Most people can resume their daily activities within a few days, but should avoid strenuous physical activity for one to two weeks. The swelling will gradually decrease, and the final results are usually seen after several weeks.
Yes, the results are permanent, as the removed fat pads do not grow back. However, significant weight gain or aging can affect the overall appearance of the face over time.
