Otoplasty: Transform and enhance the aesthetics of your ears
What is otoplasty surgery?
Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that adjusts the shape and position of the ears, addressing the commonly known “bat ears.” It also has a therapeutic purpose for those who suffer from auricular pavilion absences due to malformations or trauma. This surgery is revolutionary for those who wish to improve their image and self-esteem, correcting defects and transforming how they see and feel about themselves.

Types of cartilage deformities corrected by Otoplasty
Although “bat ears” do not affect hearing health, their emotional impact can be profound, leading to insecurities and low self-esteem.
This ear surgery can correct three types of cartilage deformities:
- A defect in the fold of the antihelix: the Y-shaped fold naturally present in the ear is absent.
- Conchal hypertrophy: the conchal cartilage is prominent or protrudes, causing the ear to stick out forward.
- Lobe valgus: the earlobe protrudes too much.
These anomalies can be present in one or both ears.
At what age is it appropriate to undergo otoplasty?
Ear surgery represents an effective solution and is recommended for both adults and children from the age of 7, once ear growth is nearly complete.
At Turó Park Aesthetic, we are committed to your well-being before, during, and after the procedure, ensuring professionalism not only in the treatment but also on the road to recovery.

Otoplasty Step by Step
Before an otoplasty, the surgeon will evaluate the ears and perform a photographic assessment to diagnose malformations and determine the patient’s motivation.
The type of anesthesia—local, assisted, or general—will be chosen according to the patient’s age and preference, and a pre-anesthetic evaluation will be conducted.
Otoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon will make an incision in the posterior fold of the ear to reshape the cartilage, adjusting the procedure according to the type of correction needed.
The operation duration varies from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes, especially in cases of bilateral otoplasty.
Otoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis, allowing the patient to return home the same day. After the surgery, the patient will need to wear an initial bandage to help position the ear and minimize swelling.
This bandage is changed after 24 hours for a softer bandage that will be necessary at night. With our minimally invasive technique it is not necessary to wear a bandage 24 hours a day, being enough to wear a soft bandage at night during the first days.
It is advised to sleep on your back to avoid pressure on the ears and to refrain from sports activities and exposure to extreme temperatures.
Postsurgical pain and any discomfort can be controlled with medications prescribed by the surgeon.

Very pleased with Dr. Lloyd Nanhekhan and his staff. Highly recommended. I have seen more than 10 specialists in Barcelona but he is the only one I could trust and always will. He focuses on his patients and best practices from the medical perspective not the sales perspective.

Frequently Asked Questions about Otoplasty
Otoplasty surgery is completely painless. Although it is normal that there may be slight discomfort during recovery, these are fully under control with a home medication regimen.
Otoplasty can be performed from the age of 7.
Fortunately in most cases the surgery is performed through an incision that is camouflaged in the retroauricular fold, so it is hardly visible. Do not hesitate to ask in consultation and we will show you pictures so you can check that you can wear your hair short or up without fear of seeing any scar.
The headband is intended to prevent the ear from turning involuntarily. Its use is temporary.
Although it is possible to perform the surgery under intravenous sedation or even general anesthesia, it is an operation that we usually perform under local anesthesia. However, we offer intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for children as well as for those patients who prefer it.
